News news news !

Home from China with absolutely LOADS of work. It had to come by container ship no less! What a wonderful experience China was. I was made so very welcome and comfortable it just felt like I belonged.I will definitely be going back as soon as possible.I have left good friends there, one, Danyun, you can see sitting with me on the front page.

I made a full body of work relating to and called My Genetic Garden. This came about becuase of a TV show I saw when I first arrived in Shanghai.Sitting in a hotel room I watched a program about genetics that had scientists crossbreeding lions and tigers just to see what happened.I was so digusted. Then they went on to talk about genetic rice that will never need to be planted as it will be an underground runner and just reshoot constantly. It was worrisome to see the keen interest in "modifying" nature.Combined with an already uneasy feeling regarding supermarket food that seems tasteless and tough it gave me the impetus to work on a Genetic Garden that hass links to both china and Australia.

Each "flower" is a combination of one of the twelve animals of the chinese zodiac and plants growing in Australia.I combined porcelain and stainless steel to emphasise both the fragilty of our eco systems and the permanence of mistakes that can be made by meddling with nature.

Ceramic and stainless steel: a new adventure.
